is made up of undergraduate students from Columbia and Barnard with a genuine interest in astronomy and who want to engage with other astronomy students, the department here at Columbia and the community at large. We welcome undergrads that are majoring in Astronomy/Astrophysics, other science disciplines, or people who simply have an interest in the subject.

STEP PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Science, Technology, Engineering Program (STEP) offers Columbia students high quality internship experiences in a diverse array of engineering fields including biomedical, civil, chemical, computer engineering, computer science, earth and environmental, electrical and mechanical fields throughout the country through alumni and employer partnerships developed by the Center for Career Education (CCE).

PROGRAM FEATURES

STEP provides students with full time work experience over the summer in locations throughout the United States, and opportunities to connect with Columbia alumni, network with professionals and learn about careers in engineering. Program features include the following: 
  • Pre-program training which includes a program overview, speaker presentations, goal setting workshops
  • Summer internship, June 2011- August 2011 (dates to be finalized and determined based on employer requirements and needs)
  • Housing recommendations
  • Alumni mentoring which will provide personal and professional guidance and support throughout the summer. 
  • Social and networking events with alumni and engineering professionals
  • End of program "Reflection Session" that includes evaluation of the internship experience, goal attainment analysis and larger career development discussion.
